When I was 17..

This has been floating out there in blogland for a bit so I decided to fill it out (maybe for the second time, who knows).

When you were 17, tell us what kind of car you drove, where you worked, and what you were usually up to on the weekends?
  • I drove a 1990 Jeep Cherokee when I was forced to drive. Hated driving then even more than I dislike it now.
  • I worked at Camp Amelia, a day camp and afterschool care, in Fernandina Beach.
  • On weekends, I... I don't remember. I know I spent a lot of time with Megin. :)

Show us pictures of you when you were 17.

Sorry, Meg! But don't we look good? ;)

When you were 17, tell us what you wanted to be when you “grew up.”
  • A special education teacher

When you were 17, tell us the kind of boys that you dated. Did you have a type? Do you have a relationship you remember well? Tell us about it.
  • Nerds.
  • I actually dated my best friend's older brother. It can make things awkward now, especially since I'm still such close friends with the entire family.
When you were 17, tell us where you pictured your life 10 years from then. Did it turn out the way you expected it to?
  • I always saw myself married with children (not the tv show). I had no idea who it would be to or where we would live. I didn't know if I'd be a working mom or a SAHM. I just knew I'd be married with kids.
  • Did it turn out the way I expected it to? Sure! I got married when I was 25, had my first baby (SF) when I was 27 and will hopefully have another when I'm 29. :)

Like a modern day fairytale

I know most of you are tired of hearing about the royal wedding, but I wanted to document it for myself for later.

Yes, I did watch the wedding, obviously. However, I didn't watch it live. 4 am is way to early for me. Instead, I DVRed it and watched it about 12 hours later. I am glad I saw it, but I kinda regret not watching it live. Maybe I should have forced myself awake that early. This will be something to tell future children and grandchildren about. I mean, people are still talking about Charles and Diana's wedding this many years later.

I think the wedding was absolutely beautiful. From the royals and the abbey to the dresses and the choir. Beautiful. I'm super glad, though, that I wasn't in their position. It would be too big and too crazy for my liking. However, it still reminds me a bit of a Disney rags-to-riches movie. A commoner marries a prince,  becomes a princess in line to, perhaps, become queen someday.

Check out some of my favorite pictures:

They look like fairytale dolls.

Love this dress!

The Queen wore my favorite color! High five!
Check out the bridesmaid/flower girl in the bottom corner. Hilarious!

The hats! Oh, those crazy hats! How do they even keep them on???

Steel Magnolias? You suck.

The Timmy and I went to his good friend Scott's wedding this past weekend in Chicago. Generally, I love weddings. It's the perfect time to celebrate your love , whether you are the couple getting married or not. Everyone is happy. The bride for marrying her love. The groom for marrying his love. The bridal party and the guests for being there to witness a loved one joining in marriage with someone they really love. The bride and groom's parents for watching their dear child get married to their love and the future parent of their grandchildren. And that is all I kept hearing this weekend about them and their future babies.

"When are you going to give me grandchildren?"

"You two need to start working on getting me a grandchild."

"When are you guys going to get my child a playmate?"

"We're counting down the time until we hear that you two are going to have a baby."

"We can't wait... [blah, blah, blah]"

All I can think of is how our potential future babies have seemed to become a taboo topic. Parents aren't encouraging it. Siblings aren't harassing about it. Friends don't really push it on us. Is it because I am a type 1 diabetic? Do they think a pregnancy for me will end in disaster? It won't. And that is why the post's title is such. That movie has given everyone the wrong idea about diabetes. Yes, it's hard, but, no, it's not impossible nor frowned upon. It just means that we need to be prepared and be in control.

I guess I am just a bit jealous that people didn't and don't just assume that that is the next step for us. I'm not saying it is, but it could be and I would have kinda liked that to have been recognized with us like it was this past weekend with Scott and Jill.

Am I just jealous and that's what this is all about? I don't think that's it. I've just had a couple of things happen on the same day this past weekend that got me thinking. I just wish those who "accidentally" get pregnant or who can easily get pregnant without complications would realize how lucky they are and that the little baby they now have or will have soon is not a pawn in a game. So many others would just love an easy little miracle like that.

A side note: The wedding was absolutely beautiful and my husband was smoking hot in his tux. ;)
